Activities Sisterhood Sisterhood of Temple Emanuel is an integral part of our congregation, As an affiliate sisterhood with the national organization, Women's League for Conservative Judaism, our function is to support the ideas and practices of Conservative Judaism in our homes, temple and community. Our members span a wide range of interests, ages and backgrounds. Our programs are designed to enhance our personal growth, Jewish involvement, and feeling of community in a relaxed social atmosphere. We provide both moral and monetary support to bettering our temple and the Jewish Theological Seminary Because our main emphasis is on the continuity of Conservative Judaism, we provide support for our youth from infancy through high school, starting with our monthly Morning Out for Moms gathering, and continuing with our Nursery school, Hebrew School, and Youth Groups. We also provide Israel scholarships and camp stipends to specific Jewish camps for qualifying students. Sisterhood invites all members to participate in our events. Somewhere among our activities is a place just right for you! Someone among our members is a friend just right for you! Come join us! Library The Ada L. Goldberg Library, containing over 6,000 volumes, is the most complete library of its kind in Northern, New Jersey. It is open to Temple members and the general public. The library's constantly increasing content includes current literature ( fiction, nonfiction and periodicals) and records on Jewish subjects for both children and adults. Temple Youth Groups Temple Emanuel provides youth activities for students in grades 4-12. The groups are affiliated with with Young Judea, the oldest and largest Zionist youth movement in America. They meet in three groups. Ofarim and Tzofim consist of grades 4-5 and 6-8 respectively, and meet every other Sunday for social activities. The Bogrim consisting of grades 9-12, meet once a week for many events locally and regionally throughout the year. Choir Led by Cantor Biddelman, the Temple Emanuel choir is a vibrant choral which presents varied musical programs on holidays and in concert. The choir performs each year at the local ecumenical program on Thanksgiving and presents mini-concerts on Chanukah, Yom Haatz-maut, Yom Hashoa and Shavuot. The music sung is taken from traditional and contemporary repertoire, and varies between liturgical and secular. Anyone who likes to sing is welcome; no prior experience is necessary. Rehearsals are Wednesdays evenings. Volunteer Committees As a conservative congregation, we have certain responsibilities to each other in terms of religious observance, education and planning for the future. But our success in meeting those responsibilities is only as great as the efforts off those who work to translate our goals into reality. Although we have a splendid professional, office and maintenance staff, Temple Emanuel is a volunteer organization. As such, it depends on its members to provide the heart and hands of the operation. For this reason, there is a comprehensive network of committees dealing with all areas of Temple concern including ritual, finance, education, fundraising, building management, youth activities, social action and future planning. These committees and others are listed below, at least one of them can benefit from your time and talent. As much as dues are paid-up pledges, it is energy and ideas that keep us growing and vital. Volunteer Committees Include: * Administration * Board of Education * Bulletin * Cemetery * Continuing Education * Finance * House & Grounds * Insurance * Legal * Library * Membership * Oneg Shabbat * Ritual * Social Action * Steering * Tree of Life * Ways & Means * Youth Commission |
